We meet at Bucklesham Village Hall at 7.30pm on the third Wednesday in every month, except July and August. We usually have a speaker or demonstrator when we meet in the Village Hall, except in January when we hold a highly competitive beetle drive and December when we have our Christmas meal.
Our birthday meeting in March is open to any ladies in the village and to other WIs. We usually do something a little different to the regular monthly meeting. In previous years we have held fashion shows and hosted a troupe of belly dancers. At these meetings, we provide food and refreshments for everyone.
We hold a raffle when we meet in the Village Hall to raise extra funds to pay for speakers and demonstrators. We also have a trading stall where members can sell things they make or produce, with the WI taking ten per cent of the proceeds.
The WI caters for a diverse range of interests and events put on by our local federation (Suffolk East Federation of Women's Institutes) and local branches. Bucklesham WI supports many of these including the camera club, weekly yoga classes, day trips, quiz nights and treasure hunts. SEFWI also organises holidays in the UK and Europe, day trips, a darts league, carpet bowls tournament and other events. If you have specific interests, the WI probably organises events you'd enjoy, giving you the opportunity to meet other like-minded ladies from different parts of East Suffolk.
We welcome new members both from within our villages and outside. Around half our members actually live outside the villages of Bucklesham, Brightwell and Foxhall. If you'd like to come along to one of our meetings, please do. If you'd like more information about our organisation, please contact our Secretary, Rosemary Farrow, on 01473 659676.
