Holbrook Swan 0 - 1 Bucklesham (Suffolk FA Sunday Shield)

Cup week came to Bucklesham FC sponsored by Edge Consult, with a visit to Holbrook. Manager Tim Howard was looking forward to testing his on-form side against opposition from a higher division.

With centre back Jack Green unavailable, Howard shuffled his side, bringing David Scrutton into the position from full back alongside Chris Plummer. Bucks defended stoutly under early pressure and gradually asserted themselves, dominating the game for long periods. Matt Handebeaux could have had a hat trick in the first quarter as chances were created but frustratingly went begging and Holbrook Swan were restricted to few half chances in the first half.

The second half went much as the first. Two sides for the most part cancelling each other out at both ends, with Bucks playing excellent build up play, but not having the cutting edge to create chances in the final third and Bucks defence keeping any Holbrook chances to a minimum.

Just as the match was heading towards extra time a free kick powered into the Holbrook box by Adam Howard drew a handball from the defender and a penalty was awarded. Sam Riches stood up to the pressure of an injury time penalty to fire home and Bucks saw the remaining moments out to seal a victory.

Bucks management team were justifiably buoyed by a fine win against a good side. The other significant event was the second half debut as a substitute by 15 year-old villager Charlie Woods, who more than held his own in his first senior football outing.
